This week, we are honored to remember Rose Schulte, a longtime Lori’s Hands client who passed away in late 2021. Rose was the embodiment of Lori’s Hands’ mission. A longtime nurse and nurse educator, Rose understood the value of service learning and was always deeply invested in the lives of her student volunteers. Rose was the life of the party yet always made the person in front of her feel like they were the most important person in the room. Rose made fast friends with everyone she met, and she had an unparalleled gift of sharing joy and laughter with those who were fortunate to know her. Of all the things Rose loved, her family and babies topped the list.
Last year, Rose participated in the Lori’s Hands Community Voices podcast. We encourage you to take a listen this week to hear more about Rose’s affinity for painting, her love of learning, her commitment to her family, and so much more that made Rose the wonderful woman she was. https://lorishands.org/ community-voices-podcast/ ( Season 1, Episode 5)
Sunday, June 26th would have been Rose’s 93rd birthday. Together with her family, we’d like to invite you to help us remember Rose this week through one or more of the following:
- Paint a picture: Rose loved being creative. With the advent of YouTube, she particularly enjoyed watching painting tutorials online. Rose learned new techniques and created beautiful paintings that she decorated her (and sometimes her student volunteers’) home with. Consider painting this week together with a Lori’s Hands client or student, a friend or family member, or even on your own as a tribute to Rose’s love of painting.
- Thank a nurse: Rose prided herself on being a nurse and educating future nurses to provide quality, patient-centered care. When you see or are treated by a nurse this week, thank them for the hard work they do.
- Donate to the Lori’s Hands student scholarship fund: Rose loved learning herself and helping others learn. Help carry Rose’s legacy forward by supporting the education of Lori’s Hands student volunteers. https://secure.

If you have a favorite photo or memory with Rose, create a painting inspired by her love of art, or would like to share a reaction to her podcast episode, we and her family would love to hear from you.
Thank you, Rose, for sharing your light with Lori’s Hands. Everyone who knew you was better for it.
We are grateful to Rose’s family for inviting us to celebrate her life this week.
