July 16, 2024: Lori’s Hands, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering intergenerational connections through service learning, is delighted to announce that we have received an $85,000 grant from The Foxwynd Foundation. This funding will bolster operations across our chapters in Newark, Delaware; Baltimore, Maryland; and Metro Detroit, Michigan.

The grant supports our mission of creating partnerships between individuals with chronic illnesses and college students. It will expand our services in our current chapters, strengthen community partnerships, and empower more students through service-learning opportunities.

“Our work at Lori’s Hands is driven by the needs of our clients and the learning goals of our students,” said Zach Barton, Executive Director of Lori’s Hands. “The generous support from The Foxwynd Foundation comes at a crucial time as we expand our reach and impact. This grant will enable us to serve more individuals with chronic illnesses and offer invaluable educational experiences to our student volunteers from over 20 universities and colleges nationwide that partner with Lori’s Hands.”

Founded in 2009, Lori’s Hands began as a Registered Student Organization at the University of Delaware and has since garnered national recognition for its innovative community health service learning approach. Our programs involve college students assisting community members with chronic illness, fostering empathy and understanding across generations.

In addition, The Foxwynd Foundation’s grant was leveraged to significantly enhance the 2024 Lori’s Hands Summer Benefit Series, where we raised $22,210 over three days in late June 2024 to support our mission.

“We are immensely grateful for The Foxwynd Foundation’s confidence in our mission,” added Barton. “Their support ensures we can continue providing vital services while educating future healthcare professionals.”
